What are Spiritual Goals?

Spiritual goals are simply the steps we purposely take to draw closer to our God. As Christians, our plans must involve walking like Jesus daily to achieve the ultimate goal of developing a close relationship with God.

What Does the Bible Say about Spiritual Goals?

What does the Bible say about spiritual goals? It’s quite simple, my dear, but so hard to do. Jesus was asked by a scribe, “What is the greatest commandment?” Jesus answered in Mark 12:30, “And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.” And, how do we love the Lord? We get our answer in Matthew 6:33, by seeking first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness, then everything else will fall into place. In other words, we must die to self and in order to do this, we must read, know, and understand the Living Word. Gaining wisdom by reading the Holy Bible must be an aim or goal of spirituality.

Spiritual Goals Bible Verses

Grab these life-changing 10 spiritual goals Bible Verses KJV that are perfect to memorize. You must be consistently creating a habit of developing an intimate relationship with the Lord. Print this list of spiritual goals and place on your fridge, write it on index cards to memorize, or frame it and place it beside your prayer place or war room.

Matthew 6:33 – But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you.

Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on the own understanding. In all thy ways, acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths.

Philippians 4:13 – I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

1 Corinthians 9:24 – 9:27 – Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain. 25 And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible. 26 I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air: 27 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

Deuteronomy 28:1 – And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the LORD thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth.

John 14:15 – If ye love me, keep my commandments.

Luke 10:27 – And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.

2 Corinthians 5:9 – Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him.

Isaiah 41:10 – Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

We all go through tough times but I promise, if you hang in there with me, there is a long-lasting, permanent solution! What is Negative Thinking?

The definition of Negative Thinking is simply this — thoughts that come to our mind that focus on potential problems, limitations, or unfavorable outcomes INSTEAD of positive pathways and solutions. In other words, negative thoughts are entertaining or interpreting situations in a pessimistic or defeatist way.

What Causes Negative Thoughts?

There are many reasons why anxious thoughts enter our mind. Here are some practical strategies that are, in my own experience and research, have been shown to cause bad thoughts throughout the day.

  1. Past experiences: Negative events or traumas from the past that can cause panic attacks and can distort one’s perspective and lead to similar negative outcomes in the future.
  2. Self-loathing: Individuals who have told you lies about your appearance or character, causing ‘low self-esteem’ by believing what others have said about you.
  3. Unfulfilled expectations: Making assumptions or having expectations about yourself or others that are not fulfilled in the time you expected. This leads to constant feelings of disappointment and failure, fueling negative thoughts.
  4. Difficult Circumstances: Life can throw us into difficult circumstances, such as financial problems, health issues, or relationship conflicts, it can contribute to a negative outlook on life instead of seeing them as ‘challenges’.
  5. Cognitive biases: Cognitive biases, such as the tendency to focus on negative information or to catastrophize, can distort perception and lead to negative thinking patterns.
  6. Environmental influences: Constantly surrounding yourself with negative people or being exposed to overly hyped social media, negative news and media can reinforce pessimistic thoughts.

Examples of Negative Thoughts

Here are some negative thought statements that reflect pessimism, self-doubt, or a generally negative outlook on oneself or the world.

  1. “I’ll never be good enough.”
  2. “Nothing ever goes right for me.”
  3. “I always mess things up.”
  4. “I’m such a failure.”
  5. “I’ll never achieve my goals.”
  6. “Nobody cares about me.”
  7. “I’m so stupid.”
  8. “I’ll never get out of this situation.”
  9. “I’ll probably just fail again.”
  10. “I don’t deserve to be happy.”
  11. “I’m worthless.”
  12. “I’ll never be able to change.”
  13. “Things will never improve.”
  14. “I’ll never be as successful as others.”
  15. “I’m just destined to be miserable.”
  16. “I’ll probably embarrass myself.”
  17. “I’m always overlooked.”
  18. “Nobody appreciates me.”
  19. “I’m just a burden to others.”
  20. “I’ll never find love.”

These inner voices can have a detrimental effect on everyday life and overall well-being. Not only will you struggle physically with an increasing heart rate and chemical imbalances, but you’ll have a tough time building positive experiences.

What are the Consequences of Negative Thinking?

These negative thought patterns always stir up bad emotions such as fear, anxiety, worry, or hopelessness. Negative self-talk will ultimately lead to lies, hinder problem-solving abilities, and impact your overall well-being. This includes a negative impact on your physical, mental, and spiritual life. Yes, it’s not a good physical trait. Many cognitive doctors have even suggested that these stressful emotions can kill you! That’s why it’s so important to address negative thinking patterns now instead of later. And, the first step is practicing positive routines and habits in our daily life through cognitive and positive mind patterns that will promote and encourage more optimistic perspectives and behaviors.

While many seek professional help, this can cause cognitive distortions if you choose the wrong counselor. In my opinion, God is the ultimate counselor! Do you struggle with negative feelings? If so, does this sound like a good thing for you, ladies? No, absolutely not. We have to say ‘stop’ to these unwanted thoughts and say ‘yes’ to a mental shift that’s more positive. But, what is positive thinking? It’s just not about positive people or positive affirmations, it’s so much more than that.

 Is Positive Thinking the Cure?

The scriptures talk about this hot topic many times but the cure is not positive thinking. Positive thinking is not Biblical thinking. We can be positive that we’re going to die and go to heaven, yet, if we don’t accept Christ, positive thinking will not get us to heaven. We need to start building Biblical thoughts that match God’s Words and teachings. Let’s start with one Bible Verse that is dubbed the ‘Mental Health’ paragraph. God tells us in Philippians 4:8, “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things”. In other words, think on things that are the truth, honest, just, pure, lovely, good report. If there is any moral goodness or praise, think about these things!

In the book of Matthew, he addresses this very same subject by saying, “Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.”  Matthew 6:34 KJV  In other words, don’t worry about tomorrow, it will take care of itself. If you are worrying, you are sinning against God, it’s that simple. He’s telling us this because He wants us to trust in Him, He will take care of these burdens we tend to pile on to ourselves.

How to Remove Negative Thoughts from Our Mind Permanently

Let’s look at the Bible and find out how we can make a conscious effort and transform negative thoughts into positive thoughts that are true and encouraging. We are not denying that bad things and tough times happen to us, but we are stating that it’s our positive attitude that get’s us through by filling our mind with the truth. Where is the truth? The Bible holds all truth and is the living, breathing word. Let’s take some deep breaths and then dig into how we can squash these intrusive thoughts forever.

Are you fulfilling your purpose as a Christian Woman? Do you want to serve Jesus but not sure how to start? Maybe it’s time to discover your talents and spiritual gifts in the Bible that God has given to you. We’ll go over 7 talents directly from scripture that God has given at least one to you. Here’s how you can determine your spiritual gift in the Bible directly from the book of Romans in Chapter 12.

What are your spiritual gifts? Find out your spiritual talents according to the Bible.

What are the 7 Spiritual Gifts?

Let’s begin with the question, what are the spiritual gifts and their meanings based on scripture? How do we define it? In 1 Corinthians 12:7, a spiritual gift is a ‘manifestation of the Spirit [of God] given to every man to profit withal”. It’s essentially a gift from God and is not a natural ability. It’s a supernatural ability that God gives to every believer. That statement I just typed gave me goosebumps as it’s so amazing that not only does He give us the gift of salvation, he also presents us with a supernatural ability that is not our natural talent.

Why are Spiritual Gifts Important?

Obviously, spiritual gifts and abilities are important because we should use the gift that God presents us. The Bible gives us a clear example as to why we should seek and use our spiritual talents. For example, the parable of talents Jesus told and recorded in Matthew 25:14–30 answers this critical question.

In Matthew 25:14-30, Jesus describes a man preparing to go on a journey. He has three servants in which he gave portions of his estate “according to their ability” and leaves. Knowing that they will eventually give an account for their portions, these three men had to decide how to use their “talents” or money. After a long period of time, the Master does return and asks each servant what he did with the gifts he gave them.

The first servant doubled his portion and was told “Well done, good and faithful servant”. The second servant doubled his money as well and was praised by his master and rewarded. The third servant, however, said he was afraid and hid his talent. The master responded with admonishment saying he was wicked and slothful. He took his talent back and gave it to them which had ten talents.

Using Your Talents for the Lord

Do we want to be the two faithful servants who doubled their portion and got praise saying “Well done, thy faithful servant” or do we want to come before our Lord someday with nothing to show in our works? Obviously, this is a rhetorical question as I would assume we as Christians want to show our works to the Lord.

How many Spiritual Gifts are there?

Something I want to mention — he did not pass out talents equally, he gave them “according to their ability”. So, if you see someone who seems to have a lot of spiritual gifts from God, that’s ok. Use your spiritual gift(s) for His glory and be happy with what He has given you.

What if I don’t Use my Spiritual Gifts?

Someday, as born-again believers, we will be kneeling before Jesus and judged at the ‘Bema’ seat. No, we won’t be talking about how we were mean to someone or the many times we sinned, we will be held accountable for our works.

The ‘Bema’ seat of Christ is noted in 2 Corinthians 5:1-19. The purpose of the ‘Bema’ seat is to reveal the character and motivation of the believer. We will be judged by our works or “the things done in his body” (2 Corinthians 5:10), and whether the Lord will accept our works. In 1 Corinthians 3:13-15, “Every man’s work shall be made manifest”. I would plead with you to find out what your spiritual talent is and how He wants you to use it.

What are the Seven Spiritual Gifts in the Bible?

How many spiritual gifts are there? In Romans 12, the 7 Spiritual Gifts in the Bible are clearly spelled out for us. Here is the entire list of spiritual gifts and talents:

  1. Gift of Prophecy (Truth Teller) – Declaring the truth to others. Possible Jobs: Missions work or teaching a class
  2. Gift of Ministry (Service) – Meeting the needs of others in practical ways. Possible Jobs: Activities/Programs in church, ushers, nursery, etc
  3. Gift of Teaching – Clarify and seek truth with a questioning mind and teach it to others. Possible positions could be Sunday School, Bible Clubs, Bible Studies, etc
  4. Gift of Exhortation (Encouragement) – Exhort or encourage others to love Jesus better or grow closer to the Lord. Possible responsibilities could be personal counseling, music ministry, visitation, soul-winning etc
  5. Gift of Giving – The gift of giving assets to one another and making good decisions coupled with the ability to meet immediate needs.
  6. Gift of Ruling – Helping others see the big picture and keep them moving and focused on their spiritual mission. In addition, the gift of leading and coordination of activities that glorify God. Examples may be high-level positions in the church.
  7. Gift of Mercy – This gift is being a comforter for those in distress and has feelings of empathy or sympathy for others during trials, tests, and tribulations. Meets needs mentally, emotionally, and practically. Jobs may be hospital visitation, benevolence, and counseling.
Spiritual gifts will be revealed if you are transformed by the renewing of your mind. Find out how to clean up the spiritual clutter with the biblical thinking notebook.

What is My Spiritual Gift?

What is your spiritual gift? You might be questioning — what are my gifts and talents? The Bible indicates that we must first be willing to present ourselves a living sacrifice. Let’s compare a physical sacrifice on the altar to a spiritual sacrifice for example. When an animal sacrifice was placed on an altar, it was very slippery. So, two flesh hooks were placed on the animal to hold it to the top of the altar to keep it from falling. In order for you to be a living sacrifice, it takes two character traits as well to keep you from conforming to the world: discipline and devotion. In order to discipline ourselves to have a God-honoring life, we must set up a daily routine of prayer, reading the Bible, and keeping our thoughts focused on Him. This will keep us strong, motivated, and encouraged when the world wants to suck us back in.

How do you keep Biblical thinking from dissipating in your mind? The Bible says in Romans 12:2 that you must have a spiritual transformation by renewing your mind. In other words, be not conformed of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Please do not be afraid of what God has in store for you. Do not be afraid of sharing the gospel with others. Also, get busy in the body, that is, the body of Christ! Use those talents in your church like Sunday School, nursery, leading a Bible Study group, and the list goes on and on.

What are your spiritual goals this year? Maybe it’s time to find out what God has gifted you so you can glorify God with your talent(s). If you are looking for a printable spiritual gifts test, take one from Lifeway.

Need spiritual solutions to strengthen your spiritual discipline? Find 10 ways to deepen your relationship with God.

Are you struggling in your spiritual life or seem too busy to spend time with God? Maybe your prayers start off well but then you fall asleep before finishing? Do you find yourself stressed out about the time it takes to read God’s word every day? My friend, this may be your spiritual dry season. It’s time to get motivated and hydrated with the right spiritual disciplines.

We all must take care of ourselves spiritually. Spiritual discipline for the Christian life isn’t easy. I get it — having too many distractions and struggles with spiritual motivation is very common. It’s hard to find the energy for spiritual disciplines when we’re so busy with work, family, and other responsibilities. In this post, we’re going to talk about the different ways to practice spiritual disciplines without feeling overwhelmed and under motivated.

What is Spiritual Discipline?

The word “discipline” sounds like something we would want to avoid, right?!! The definition of discipline is “training that corrects or improves.” The definition of spiritual discipline is the intentional act of developing habits and practices that are all designed to encourage Godly characteristics.

What is spirituality? Spiritual practices are the act of disciplining oneself in order to grow spiritually. This includes self-denial and obedience to God’s commands. It is important that we recognize our need for God’s help. In addition, discipline can be used as a weapon against Satan. He wants nothing more than to keep us from achieving the fullness of Christ Jesus.

Why Do We Need Spiritual Disciplines?

While it’s easy to think of punishments as discipline, we should really focus on the word ‘training’. You are training for a spiritual marathon. And remember, discipline is not only for our children, it’s for adults too. Spiritual control is essentially a way for Christians to draw grow closer to God. Let’s discuss many spiritual disciplines recorded in the Bible that you can incorporate into your day. All of our souls need nourishment so we can be a valuable instrument for the body of Christ.

Christianity is a faith that requires discipline to live out. In order to be truly disciplined, one must have the right motivation. The Bible tells us that our motivation should not be self-seeking or prideful. Instead, it’s should be righteous and service-based (1 Cor 10:24). Christians are called to love others with the same love Christ showed us on the cross. When engaging with spiritual disciplines in the Bible, it should always be done with an attitude of humility and grace.

What the Bible Says about Spiritual Discipline

The Bible tells us that God disciplines those he loves (Hebrew 12:6). We are disciplined when we make mistakes and need correction in order to learn from them. One way we’re disciplined is through pain and sorrow. Paul says this kind of suffering produces perseverance which leads to character development and hope (Romans 5:3-4). Jesus also reminds us that his disciples must take up their cross and follow him. When you are going through a trial or temptation, see it as an opportunity for spiritual growth. Instead, think of it as an honor from God. He wants to develop your character traits into the spiritual armor of God.

List of Spiritual Disciplines

Having spiritual character attributes will ultimately improve your relationship with God. There are many ways to develop key routines with that focus in mind. Some examples of spiritual practices are praying, reading scripture, or simply spending time in solitude listening for His voice. If you want to grow closer to Him, follow this Spiritual Disciplines List carefully and intentionally. I guarantee it will deepen your relationship with Christ based on the Bible.

Our list of spiritual practices is simple yet life-changing and impactful if you follow it routinely. The goal of daily spiritual practices is to develop lifelong habits that feed your spiritual growth. If you look forward to reading the Bible and praying, you are at the next spiritual level of growth.

  1. Scripture Reading – It’s critical for Christians to read the Bible daily as a top-key spiritual discipline. I highly recommend having a Bible Reading Plan to keep you focused and hold you accountable. Depending upon your spiritual goals, there are Bible Reading Trackers for one year, 18 months, and even 2 years. Many scripture reading plans are out there to help you stay focused and motivated to keep reading. Make sure to have Bible commentaries available and close to guide you in understanding more difficult scripture.

2. Prayer Time – Devoting spiritual discipline prayer time each day during quiet moments is key to developing a relationship with God. Using the ACTS Method, focusing on praise and gratitude will jump-start your daily prayers.

3. Gratitude – Express gratitude openly and internally every morning as you wake up for current and future blessings. Write daily in your journal noting all of the spiritual blessings you are thankful for.

4. Fasting – Dedicate a day or several hours to not eating and instead, devour the Word and pray incessantly. Then, each time you feel the hunger pains, get into the Word and pray for God’s guidance. Fasting is perfect for times when you need direction on a specific spiritual problem you are facing.

5. Meditation – Find time each day to meditate on certain Bible Verses or passages that help you with weaknesses and struggles. Meditating on scripture passages helps us stay focused on His Word, relaxing our body, soul, and mind.

6. Praising – Giving God glory through music and verbally throughout the day in your thoughts and in your prayers. It’s clear in the Bible that when we are in the Spirit, we should praise God with Psalms and Hymns.

Ephesians 5:18-20 – And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; 19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; 20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ; 21 Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.

7. Scripture Memorization – Memorize scripture daily as a way of connecting with God’s word. Knowing scripture fluently combats many issues we face in life. Jesus used the Word of God to defeat Satan during his 40 days of temptation. We should mimic Jesus’ example too. When the kids are acting up, remind them of key Bible Verses. If you are struggling with your tongue, memorize a Bible Verse reminding you of your tongue. Then, when you are tempted to speak evil, it will trigger the right Biblical thoughts.

Ephesians 4:29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.

8. Bible Journaling– Jotting down prayers, thoughts, and communication from the Lord is an important part of spiritual discipline and wisdom. Write in a spiritual journal all the blessings you’ve received from God. In addition, note your thoughts, prayers, and what He is communicating to you through prayer and His Word. Part of my 15-Minute Reading Plan includes a journal with thought-provoking questions to keep you focused on the right priorities.

9. Devotional Reading – Find solid, deep-thinking types of devotionals that motivate and challenge you to act in a Biblical way. I always enjoy Love Worth Finding devotionals from Adrian Rogers. In addition, I am loving the last couple of devotionals I ordered ‘More Than Anything’ and ‘Amen: Eden to Eternity’ from Daily Grace Co!

10. Biblical Thinking – Keep your mind clean and focused on God at all times with positive thinking. Unfortunately, Negative thoughts tend to creep up easily and the Battle of the Mind can be won using Phillipians 4:8,9.

We discussed several key elements for spiritual growth including how to strengthen our spiritual disciplines. Plus, what are spiritual practices we can implement today. Developing game-changing godly habits will forever set the course as Christian women to a personal, intimate relationship with God.

Why Should You Guard Your Heart

The Bible is filled with warnings to guard our hearts. This biblical book of wisdom tells us that the heart has the ability to control a person’s life-changing decisions and actions, so it is important for believers to be aware of their own hearts. The Bible also tells us how we can guard our hearts against sinful temptation by controlling what we consume and letting Jesus Christ rule over every aspect of our lives.

What Guarding Your Heart Means

Since we have established that the Bible tells us to guard our hearts, what does guard your heart mean? The Hebrew definition of ‘heart’ in the Bible is where we have our feelings stored and think our thoughts. Aside from the physical aspect, our inner self extends into our character, intent, or purpose. Guarding your heart means protecting it from sin and lusts that will harm you or lead you astray.

What the Bible Says about Guarding Your Heart

The heart is also where we make our choices, good and bad. Look at it this way — when we talk about spiritual declutter, negative thoughts, how to renew your mind — it all leads to guarding your heart to keep it from these sinful spiritual behaviors. We need the armor of God around our hearts and mind to protect the center of our core being.

Let’s break it down into easy-to-understand meanings of the ‘Heart’ definition. What does guard your heart mean in the Bible? It can be difficult to understand a concept that you can’t see. Let’s review — the ‘heart’ meaning is the seat of three elements:

  1. Seat of our Mind (thoughts)
  2. Seat of our Emotions (feelings)
  3. Seat of our Will (intentions)

How to Guard Your Heart

We’ve established what guarding your heart means, and why it’s important. Let’s now discuss the most practical question to answer: how do I guard my heart? This is a question that many women ask, and that’s why we need a Bible study on the heart.

In order to do this effectively, we need to look into God’s Word for the answers. He can help us discern between good and bad influences on our lives. Some questions to think about are: where in the Bible does it tell us? How does one go about guarding their heart?  Let’s start with Psalm 119:9-16.

Guard Your Heart Scripture

Psalm 119:9-16 lays out the blueprint for guarding our hearts. There are 7 principles you can adhere to in order to effectively guard your heart against temptation, lusts, and sin. To make it easy to remember, they all start with a C. Make sure you read the description to get a better picture of how guarding our heart is actually possible if you change your will to be His will.  You can also listen to Adrian Roger’s sermon Guard Your Heart on Youtube.

  1. Cleanse -Psalm 119:9 It’s time for a spring cleaning in your mind. If we confess (agree that it is wrong), He will forgive and cleanse us. He will cleanse us from not only wrong thinking, but our wicked imaginations. Ask yourself this question — do you TRULY want to be perfectly clean or just a little? Search your heart for the answer. It’s a difficult question and few can give their whole hearts to Jesus, but many can thanks to Jesus.
  2. Consistent – Be determined not to be a double-minded person, which is someone inconsistent with their speaking and actions. James 1:8 states a double minded man is unstable in all his ways. In other words, one day they are one way, another day they are another way. Instead, purpose in your heart that you will not defile yourself. Do you say one thing, and do another out of fear, worry, or anxiety that you may fail?
  3. Commit – Commit to reading and memorizing scripture and thinking godly thoughts instead of your own negative thoughts. Commit to memorizing His word and apply it to your life. Don’t just memorize and not use what God has given you — His Holy Word. Instead, hide His Word in your heart so you will not sin against Him. Memorizing scripture must be used when we are tempted and during tests, trials and tribulations.
  4. Connect – Contact the Lord and ask Him to teach you using prayer as a vessel of connecting with the Lord. He is the BEST teacher, the BEST instructor, and the BEST example we can follow. God will guard your heart!
  5. Communicate – Verbally speak and sing out loud so you can hear yourself praising God and saying His powerful Word. Speaking of God’s word gives us force that can’t be reckoned with. Say out loud your own testimony to yourself to remind you of his goodness.
  6. Check – Double check your mind and heart to ensure you’re feeding on Jesus’ teachings, not on your dirty or negative mind. It’s easy to dwell on our negative emotions, feelings, and thoughts in our mind. Instead, if we have a clean heart, let’s keep it clean. We must guard our heart from all unclean thinking. Go back to the 1st principle ‘Clean’ if your mind becomes cluttered with nasty thought habits.
  7. Concentrate – Consistently concentrate on His Word, meditate on His Word, and make time with a quiet place or spot that helps you focus on Him. If we are constantly busy, if we will never have any downtime, we will not have a quiet space in our mind to draw closer to the Lord.

We should always be on alert because our enemy wants us to give in to temptation and sin. Otherwise, we will not have a relationship with Jesus Christ. There are many ways to guard your heart, but the best way is by keeping yourself in the Word of God as much as possible. When you fill yourself up with His truth and love, it becomes impossible for anyone or anything else to take over your life!

Matthew 15:18 – But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.

James 4:8 – Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double-minded.

1 Samuel 16:7 – But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.

1 Timothy 1:5 – Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned

As we close, remember that David was a good example — in the Bible, it states that he was a man after God’s heart. Looking at the book of Psalms, we can read how passionate He was for the Lord and how much He loved him. I am hopeful these Guard Your Heart principles will draw you closer to God.

What Does It Mean to Walk with God

Wondering what does it mean to walk with God? In the Bible, we can find the word ‘walk’ literally means to take steps physically to a destination. Yet, we can also find the Hebrew meaning of walk or Christian Walk definition as figuratively developing a relationship or fellowship with God. If you think about it, there is conversation back and forth when you are walking with someone. You are getting to know that person, trying to understand them. So, the Christian Walk with Jesus works the same way — we are getting to know our Creator, the Savior of the World.

Who Walked With God in the Bible

Let’s look at examples in the Bible to answer this important question. Overall, we can find 4 people who are labeled with Walk with God Scripture. Each righteous person in the Bible has character traits of obedience, faith, not being conformed of the world, and walking worthy of their vocation. In addition, you’ll find Christian Walk verses to back up why each faithful servant of the Lord walked with Jesus daily.

Enoch Walked with God

In the beginning of Genesis, there was a man named Enoch. Enoch walked with God for 300 years; that is a pretty amazing feat! Enoch is one of two men who did not die, as God took him. We’re going to discuss his life in more detail below.

Genesis 5:22 (KJV) – And Enoch walked with God after he begat Methuselah three hundred years, and begat sons and daughters.

Noah Walked with God

Noah was a just man living only 10 generations from Adam. He was faithful and feared the Lord, prompting him to obey His commandments and build an ark.

Genesis 5:9 – These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God.

Noah was also faithful, fearful of God, and seperated his position from the world to become a righteous man.

Hebrews 11:7 By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.

Abraham Walked with God

Abraham who also by faith, obeyed the Lord and followed the Lord’s path, not knowing where God was taking him,

Hebrews 11:8 By Faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.

Zacharias Walked with God

John the Baptist, who paved the way for our Savior’s coming, had a father named Zacharias and Elizabeth. Both parents were noted in the gospel of Luke how righteous they were and walked in of God’s commandments.

Luke 1:5-6 – There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judaea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the course of Abia: and his wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elisabeth. 6 And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.

This walk with God quote talks about the Christian walk that requires a walk by faith, not by sight.

How did Enoch Walk with God

Let’s look at Enoch as the main example in the Bible to answer how did Enoch walk with God. The first book of the Bible Genesis notes the first man know God in an intimate way. Enoch started walking with God AFTER his son was born, named Methuselah, which means “when he is dead it will be sent” in Hebrew.

Obviously, Enoch knew that his child would live until the flood and dedicated his life to training his son to follow God daily. Interesting to note, the name Enoch does mean ‘dedicated’ in Hebrew. He dedicated his Christian Walk with God for 300 years!

When my first child was born, my faith and fear of the Lord soared and became stronger. The desire and dedication for my child to follow God was overwhelming and I knew only God could make this happen. Having children can make a huge difference in your life priorities.

How Do I Walk with God

Do you have a Christian Walk with God? If not, you’re not alone. The importance of walking with God cannot be overstated. It’s at the highest level of achievement for the Christian life. It’s something that can’t be accomplished easily, yet, with God, all things are possible (Phillipians 4:13). Let’s discuss what is a walk with God and how can we take the next step towards the highest spiritual level that few have taken.

  1. Walk in Faith – In Hebrews 11:5, faith is what Enoch to be translated or leave this earth without dying. Without faith, the Bible says it is impossible to please Him. How do we get faith? Romans 10:17 states we must hear the Word of God through intimacy using the Bible and the Holy Spirit.
  2. Walk in Fellowship – As you read the Bible, listen to what God is telling you, whether it’s through the Words or through the Holy Ghost. Talk with the Lord as your friend throughout the day instead of dwelling on things you can’t control. Give your thoughts to God and as you hear or read His word, take time to listen to Him.
  3. Walk in Fruitfulness – Hebrews 11:5 notes that Enoch’s relationship with the Lord and his testimony pleased God. The Fruits of the Spirit will be revealed in our lives. In Micah 6:8, the Lord requires us to do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly before God.

The Benefits of Walking with God

Why should I walk with God? When we come willingly to God and believe who He is, a reward will be given to those who diligently seek him (Hebrews 11:6). In addition, it pleases the Lord and many blessings will be given as you follow Him. The troubles, trials, and tribulations you face will not be alone when walking with Jesus daily. He will be with you step by step, 24 hours a day as you seek God’s wisdom, guidance, and direction.

Walk with God to enjoy a life of happiness and peace.

How do I Walk with God

Do you have a Christian walk with God? Or, are you wondering how I can improve my walk with God? If so, we can use Enoch as an example and follow in his footsteps. Our goal as Christ-followers is the build an everlasting relationship with Jesus. The scripture tells us that Enoch feared the Lord. To fear the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. So, how do we build wisdom? By diligently seeking Him on a daily basis through his Word and the Spirit.

As Ephesians 4:1 commands, walk worthy of your vocation. Humble thyself to walk with God. All it takes my friend is believing in His Word…do you believe? There are no more excuses, my friend. You have the tools to begin the first step towards your spiritual journey of learning to love the Lord. Make the committment and say ‘I’ll walk with God” today. You have the tools to begin the first step towards your spiritual journey of learning to love the Lord. He is waiting for you.

Prayer for a Deeper Walk with God

Lord, I pray for wisdom and strength as I build for a deeper relationship with you. Remove all doubts, fears, and weaknesses that cause me to stray from our intimacy. I want to get to know you better, Lord, I want to learn to love you with all my heart, soul, and mind. Show me how to follow your path instead of my own. Draw me nearer, nearer blessed Lord.

Just a Closer Walk with Thee Lyrics

Credit: Hymnary.org
Video: YouTube

I am weak but Thou art strong;
Jesus, keep me from all wrong;
I’ll be satisfied as long
As I walk, let me walk close to Thee.

Refrain:
Just a closer walk with Thee,
Grant it, Jesus, is my plea,
Daily walking close to Thee,
Let it be, dear Lord, let it be.

2 Thro’ this world of toil and snares,
If I falter, Lord, who cares?
Who with me my burden shares?
None but Thee, dear Lord, none but Thee.

[Refrain]

3 When my feeble life is o’er,
Time for me will be no more;
Guide me gently, safely o’er
To Thy kingdom shore, to Thy shore. [Refrain]

Find out how to stop negative thoughts by using the right bible verses!

If someone had access to your thoughts the ENTIRE day, what would they see or hear? Would you be embarrassed? If so, why are we not more coherent to our negative thoughts? Why don’t we focus more on them instead of our outward appearance? It all begins inside our mind, the seed of sin. Here’s how to stop negative thoughts with bible verses.

You would think we’d be more intentional about our own fleshy thoughts, but if we admitted to ourself, we’re more worried about what man thinks of us, especially if we are Christians. We dress a certain way, we talk in God speak, yet, our spiritual selves are filled with bitterness, evil thinking, and unnecessary judgement.

Are you ready to make a change in your own negative thinking habits? Yes, I’m talking to you, Christian. You would be amazed at the transformation in your own life if you focus on God and your relationship with Him.

Removing Mind Clutter

When I took a biblical counseling session with my husband, I was ready to respond with what my husband was doing in our marriage. I was prepared to reveal his nasty sin, yet, to my shock, the counselors didn’t ask about our relationship. Instead, they asked us about our relationship with God.

Wait, what?!! I was so prepared to tell them about my problems with him! It totally blew us away. As we continued our sessions, we realized that our relationship with God was not where it should be. We were focused on everything else. As we grew closer to the Lord, we also realized that it all started with our thoughts. We had to remove the mental clutter, so we could talk to God and ask him to help us, instead of taking everything on ourselves.

Key Negative Thoughts Bible Verse

So, one of the major bible verses that helped me tremendously in my spiritual growth was Ephesians 4:31 – 32 KJV. Why? Because I had a lot of bitterness and anger toward my husband.

Does this sound like you? Are you struggling with anger, bitterness, etc? If so, please meditate on this anger bible verse of Ephesians 4:31 – 32 KJV. It will change your marriage and life if it’s a struggle for you like me.

Anger Bible Verse

Ephesians 4:31-32 King James Version (KJV)
31 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:

32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.

Negative Emotions

If you struggle with any of these various negative emotions throughout the day such as fears, anxiety, worry, and anger, it’s time to transform your mind into biblical thinking. You’d be shocked at what your mind thinks throughout the day. Do you want to enjoy a life of joy, happiness, and contentment? Here’s a biblical way how to develop simple routines below to begin a game-changing process.

Our 12 Page Biblical Thinking Notebook is a new way of thinking…you may have never heard of it before. Yet, I’m here to tell you it works! Get away from worldly thoughts and emotions, instead, let the Lord guide you into the best years of your life.

Would you like to change your thinking habits and have a stress-free, happy life? If so, let me take you on the same journey I went through years ago when I was stressed from the time I woke up in the morning until bedtime. I’ll show you how to be transformed by the renewing of your mind. It’s not a simple path, but it does get easier over time once you establish good biblical habits using Bible verses and prayer.

This transformed Bible verse was key to removing my spiritual mind clutter in Romans 12:2. The Romans 12:2 Bible verse says that we should ‘And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.’ It is key to staying away from worldly thoughts such as bitterness, loneliness, depression, and impure thoughts.

Let me step back for a minute. For many years, I always had a one-word theme to help me focus on my goals. How about you? A few years ago, my one word for the year was — ‘transform’. And, boy, did my whole world transform (as a friend put it). It was the year that made a huge impact on my life. Sadly, my previous one-word themes had not been spiritual, yet, this year, it was going to be different.

Wondering what my ‘unspiritual’ words were the previous years? Here’s an idea — I went through your typical ‘simple’ themes like declutter, organize, etc…you get the picture. It was all about material possessions, but never my spiritual condition.

I had forgotten what was most important. Yet, I’m so glad a light bulb went off when I realized I still wasn’t happy with my situation, environment, or my family.

What is the ‘Transformed’ Definition?

What does it mean to be transformed? The transformed definition is a change completely, in form, appearance, or in structure.

Here’s the problem — I couldn’t do it by myself.  It was always impossible for me to transform myself even trying many times and failing miserably.  However, when I began to realize that I had to relinquish it ALL to God, then, I would be transformed by the renewing of my mind through the Holy Spirit.

But, I had to be willing to allow the Holy Spirit to change me.  That’s why they call it ‘will’.  We all have one and a lot of times, we say no, don’t we?  I ‘will’ not.  This year, however, I want to transform and say ‘I will’, just like the commitment I made twenty-some years ago with my husband. Doesn’t that sound like a perfect picture of Christ and his Bride? I’m so happy and honored to be his Bride.

How to Be Transformed

If you want to be transformed by God, you need to start preparing — begin with a physical routine and a good location or environment.  He will show you how to be transformed by the renewing of your mind; he is the ultimate teacher. Remember, you need a consistently quiet place to talk to Him so your mind automatically goes into ‘God Mode’.

In the scriptures, Daniel had a special place that was his ‘prayer place’ or ‘prayer room’. He prayed in his prayer spot at the same time and place three times a day since people knew where he prayed and when to go find him there. Remember those evil men or caused him to be thrown in the lion’s den? They knew those key details to get Daniel in the Lion’s Den.

Daniel 6:10 King James Version (KJV)
10 Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime.

Do you have a Praying Room?

Is it time for you to find your own own space and make it your place? A place with just you and the Lord? Find a praying room or part of the house that has little traffic and is quiet. I highly recommend the movie ‘War Room’ as reveals the importance for a prayer room.

It’s a wonderful place — you may not recognize the importance of it right away, but when you develop a habit, you’ll see a difference. Your mind will start automatically shifting to worshiping and thanking the Lord. It will become so engrained in you that those special surroundings will trigger your thoughts right to the Lord. A wonderful habit will form and will become just you and the Lord’s time.

My place with the Lord used to be the closet until we needed the space to store things recently. Now, it’s by the fireplace in a comfortable chair where I go early in the morning before the day begins. I’ve been doing this for over 2 years now and look forward to it. It’s certainly the most peaceful time of the day.

Here's how to transform with the renewing of your mind bible verse!

Prayer Place

So, your assignment for today is to find a place that’s quiet and only you and the Lord know about it. This will be your ‘prayer closet’ or ‘prayer room’. This is your special place to read your bible, meditate on bible verses etc. Do you have a corner in the closet you can put a pillow for kneeling or a chair for sitting?

If you don’t have room for a special place, find one.  Declutter the closet, get rid of that physical stuff you don’t need and make room for the Lord.  He is waiting for you.  He wants a relationship with you.  Yes, YOU!

You are His child.  Isn’t that amazing that you can talk to the Almighty God?  I am in awe that He wants to talk to little old me. I can’t reach the President of the United States, yet, my Father, the creator of the ENTIRE universe is waiting for me.  Wow, that’s powerful, it gives me goose bumps.

What are you waiting for?!!! Go get your space with the Lord!

Questions to Ask Before Settling on a Prayer Room

Some questions to ask before settling on your spot:

  • What household area has the least amount of traffic?
  • Where can I go that’s quiet but easy to access?
  • Can I hide from others while also being accessible in case of an emergency?
  • Is there a place to put a bible, journal, and pen?

First Step: Be Transformed By the Renewing of Your Mind

Now that I’ve given you your first assignment, this is just the beginning to being transformed by the renewing of your mind. We will continue an important series that starts with this post. Stay tuned as we will be going on a spiritual adventure to make us more like Christ, saturating ourselves with the Word, bible verses, prayer time, and the Holy Spirit.

Second Step: Use Daily Tools for Encouragement and Growth

The Bible is the most important tool in your spiritual tool kit. Yet, we can have supplemental material to guide us along with getting to know the Lord. If you are struggling with issues that are weighing on you daily, it’s time for a change! If you are ready for a transformation like no other, you’re not going to doing it alone anymore. I show you step by step how you can begin to get closer to the Lord by adding a few simple steps to your life. What can you lose? Transform your negative thoughts into biblical thinking with my Biblical Thinking Notebook. It comes with a step by step process including critical key verses that helped me transform my mind into positive, godly thoughts. Plus, you’ll find a place for planning, writing in a journal with what God reveals to you, and exercises with examples to help you hone in on what sinful feelings that are weighing you down like bitterness, anger, and more!

Are you struggling with what’s going on in your current life? Are you starting to feel anxious, maybe even overwhelmed with panic? I’ll show you how to stop worrying about the future, and instead, focus on God.

I get it, I am talking to myself at times. We worry about the bills piling up, we worry about a trial we’re going through, we worry about the past and how to fix it.

Regardless of what’s causing the anxiety, this emotion displeases God because we are not living by faith. Whether you caused your situation or not, it doesn’t matter. God turns everything into good for His glory. Period.

Or, maybe you’re thinking, I have done nothing wrong to cause my life circumstance, why is this happening to me? You’re worrying about something you can’t change.

Many people are stressed about their many “life issues.” There are so many life factors involved, whether its relationships, children, marital, financial, job, etc etc! Yet, we have no control over any situation except for how we live today.

Today is a new day, my friend. Stop living in the past, stop worrying about the future, and start living again. Start living for Him. Find out what he wants YOUR story to be.

Will you join me?

Here's how to stop worrying about the future with practical worry bible verses.

Meditate and Memorize Bible Verses

If you seriously think about it, most of our thoughts are negative. The “what ifs” are always popping up in our head. Should we even be entertaining any negative thoughts? No, my friend. Instead, meditate on this bible verse, pray about this bible verse, and memorize this bible verse. And, watch the joy in life again begin to appear. It’s a life changing experience.

Philippians 4:6-7 (KJV)
6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

It’s time to begin biblically thinking about spiritual matters. Are we intentionally removing that spiritual clutter on a daily basis, helping us to draw closer to Lord? We are going to be tempted daily. Yet, the Bible tells us to live by faith. But honestly, how many of us do that? The trials I face have caused me to pause and think about how God is glorified when I’m doubting Him, doubting His Word?

I have struggled with worry — most of my life, and have found myself thinking about things I shouldn’t. So, after going through counseling classes and meditating and memorizing God’s Word, my eyes opened up wide.

I didn’t have to use worry as an excuse anymore to stay crippled in fear! When I caught myself doubting Him, I pulled out that verse and it worked!

Below is the bible scripture that helps me DAILY when I catch my thoughts lead me down the wrong path. Start taking inventory of your mind and evaluate, are my thoughts praiseworthy? If not, it’s time to purge!

Philippians 4:8 “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”

Evaluate Your Thoughts

Are your thoughts pure and positive or worry and anxiety?

Evaluate each and every thought you have for the rest of the day and ask yourself when you catch yourself drifting into your OWN thoughts…is it pure? Is it a good report or lovely? If no, STOP! Instead, think about the lovely things God has given you. Like having children, the roof over your head, the food on the table. There are so many things to start living for!

You, my friend, are blessed! You are just not seeing it and I want to show you how!

My challenge for you today is to get out a journal and start writing down all of the negative thoughts you have during the day. You’ll be surprised how many times you do not think on things that are lovely.

Pray About Your Worry, Fear, and Anxiety

So, you’re thinking — will I really overcome daily anxiety and worry with these bible verses? Yes, here’s a quick overview on how to stop worrying about the future:

  1. Pray to God and ask God to help you. Talk to God every minute you can, this will reduce the negative thoughts from creeping in. Remember, he is the ultimate counselor.
This will allow you to transform those thoughts of worry into positive, pure thoughts. Anxiety and worry are most likely the emotions we face many times throughout the day. Emotions can be deceiving.
  2. Meditate on a bible verse (like the one above) to help you remember how to keep those toxic thoughts away from your mind. Keep this in mind, the poison seeping into your mind will drain your energy, your confidence in God, and will cripple you spiritually. Your direct line to God will become frayed.
  3. Memorize a bible verse specifically for the struggle you are going through. There are so many other bible verses that will remind you of how you can stop taking the focus off of you. Instead, you’ll begin to focus on the most important thing in your life, the Lord Jesus Christ.

Commit Your Time to the Lord

Let’s make a commitment today. Proverbs 16:3 says, Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established. Let’s be blessed by trusting TOTALLY on the Lord.

God made us to serve Him, so let’s do it! We have two choices every day…please God or please ourselves.

Which one are you going to work on today?

Write in the comments below and make a commitment today on who YOU are going to serve! Remember, it’s going to hard at first to change your thinking like with any habit, but once it becomes a habit, you will be BLESSED!

Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ. II Corinthians 10:5
